The problem with this country is that the rain tries to outlast the sun, which tries to make up for it by shining extra brightly and warmly whenever it can. Of course, the wind then tries to nullify the sun's warmth by being extra cold and cutting.
This weekend Valerie and I went to Malmo (in Sweden). She knows a Singaporean family there and so we had beef rendang, laksa, and a bit of sashimi for dinner. We stayed one night at their place and in the morning they gave us har gao and siu mai for breakfast O: I have never felt so pampered in my life. After breakfast the son showed us around town. I actually liked it a lot better than Copenhagen. Either the streets are wider or Copenhagen is more crowded. Also my mental impression of Copenhagen at the moment is of wet streets with lots of people huddled in raincoats and windbreakers dashing about. I guess it doesn't help that the train station I go to most often (Norreport) smells like pee. Yeah, it's kinda gross. It rains so much here that I have been seriously considering buying a pair of rain boots even though they are quite expensive. I saw a pair in Malmo which were black with pink flowers and shoelaces up the front. They cost 299 Swedish kroner which is about $60 I think. But I figured they wouldn't be warm enough for the winter. I also saw some which cost about $80 which were fur-lined, but they were all quite ugly and kind of above budget. I also saw a guy in a lime green mankini (ok but he was wearing shorts beneath it) jump into 18 degree water with all his friends egging him on. Good for him. Next time if I ever live overseas (unlikely, but I'm just saying) you will all be welcome to stay in my house if you are visiting my city and then I will cook you soggy rice with canned tuna and mushrooms. (I really cooked that. It was actually quite good and I would eat it again. I'm sure you don't believe me though.) You can also invite your mother/father/uncle/aunty/dog. Ok I go do Danish homework now >: |
